Be Kind Project: Banner/MD Anderson Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund

On January 13th 2021, the Be Kind Project team was able to virtually kick-off the start of the Be Kind Project: Banner/MD Anderson Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund with $250,000! This could not have happened without the support of those who believed in, and generously donated to, this cause in 2020. We still have a long way to go to reach our commitment of $1.25 million, but we couldn’t be more proud of this moment and what it will mean for the cancer community.

These funds will begin to assist individuals diagnosed with breast cancer, their families, and their children. The fund is designed to aid those in need of treatments and assistance not covered by insurance. Examples include, MRIs for patients with dense breasts, clinical trial participation, genetic studies, hair preservation and psycho-oncology services.

Lydia

“One of the greatest gifts a person can give another, is support”

On January 14th, Be Kind Project was notified about the family of a Gilbert teenager who could use some help. At 14 years old, Lydia was diagnosed with both Covid 19 and

Leukemia and rushed to surgery and a first round of chemotherapy.

Upon hearing this news, our team jumped into action contacting our friends at non-profit Crowns of Courage in Scottsdale. They make human hair halo wigs for pediatric cancer patients. We thought if we could save some of Lydia’s beautiful, brown hair before her treatment side effects kicked-in, we could possibly give her back some feeling of control down the road. Brave Lydia shaved her head after her first chemo treatment while telling her teary-eyed mother “its only hair, mom”. Her gorgeous hair d

onation was then hand-sewn into a cap by Crowns of Courage. She can now wear her halo wig underneath a cute hat as she continues to show cancer it messed with the wrong girl!

In hearing about the uncovered medical bills piling up for Lydia’s family, we also committed to matching up to $10,000 in donations through our website for Lydia from Jan 16th through Feb 14th.

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to the INCREDIBLE contributions of the Be Kind Project community, we were able to provide Lydia $21,038.02 in medical bill funding!

National Random Acts of Kindness Day!

February 17th was National Random Acts of Kindness Day. It only made sense that we partake in some fun! We were able to surprise some random people with Starbucks cards, donuts and even charcuterie!I think we can all agree, it feels good to make others feel good.
