Be Kind Project Pledges $1.25 Million to Phoenix Children’s Hospital

The donation will provide long‑term emergency aid for families in crisis.

Be Kind Project announced a landmark partnership with Phoenix Children’s Hospital that will provide $1.25 million in direct financial assistance for families whose children are facing serious illness or injury.

Under the agreement, Be Kind Project has committed a total of $1.25 million to support the Hospital’s Patient and Family Assistance Fund.

The commitment works in two parts:

$250,000 initial gift: Already donated, this funding is being used right away to help families cover urgent needs such as rent, food, transportation, and utility bills during extended hospital stays or periods of lost income.

$1 million endowment: Be Kind Project will contribute $250,000 per year toward building a permanent endowment fund. Once fully funded, investment income from this endowment will provide a stable, long-term source of support for the Patient and Family Assistance Program, ensuring help is available for generations to come.

For caregivers forced to choose between showing up for treatment or staying afloat financially, this support is a lifeline.
Financial hardship is a daily reality for many Phoenix Children’s families. Only 65% of patients are covered by Medicaid, and unexpected time off work often pushes caregivers below the poverty line.

“There was a two-year-old in the Hospital whose Mom had COVID, so she could not work, and Dad was staying at the Hospital. Naturally, this means that they could not pay their bills,” recalled Rhonda Baldwin, Manager at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“We were able to help them with rent and their electric bill. People keep hoping that the pandemic is over, but our families continue to be affected by it. These funds are immensely helpful.”

The funding targets three key areas of relief:

Clinical Needs: Gas cards, ride-share credits, lodging, and uncovered medications for families traveling long distances or facing frequent appointments.

Supportive Needs: Therapeutic arts, animal-assisted therapy, and instruction through 1 Darn Cool School, so children keep learning while in treatment.

Children & Family Needs: Groceries, rent, utilities, sibling counseling, and other essentials that keep households stable during extended hospital stays.

The collaboration aligns with Be Kind Project’s founding promise: every public donation is placed in a separate account devoted solely to charitable programs. By securing private funding for overhead, the nonprofit can pass along each contribution in full, a model that has attracted donors nationwide since the organization’s launch.

Community members can amplify the impact of Be Kind Project’s pledge by donating, volunteering, or sharing the story online. Every contribution – large or small – directly supports a family fighting for a child’s health. If you wish to extend the impact of this partnership, you can donate, volunteer, or learn more on the Be Kind website.
